Cetane EFI Rating System with XCP® Technology

Overview

This innovative system features a state-of-the-art solenoid-style automotive fuel injector with a modified nozzle to accommodate a wide range of cetane number (CN) applications. The injector is coupled with an electrically driven injection pump that delivers a constant fuel flow rate. The injection advance is not sensitive to the physical properties of the fuel, ensuring consistent timing. The injection duration is also fixed and always completes before the start of combustion (SOC).

Fuel is supplied to the injection pump under pressure, ensuring that the fuel flow rate remains stable regardless of the fuel bowl level or the physical properties of the fuel. This results in significantly less variation in fuel quantity compared to legacy systems and reduces cycle-to-cycle combustion variation. The improved atomization of the fuel leads to better air/fuel mixing, promoting cleaner combustion and longer maintenance intervals.

Test Methods

The CFR F5 Cetane EFI rating engines are specified equipment for testing fuels according to:

ASTM D613: Standard Test Method for Cetane Number of Diesel Fuel Oil

IP 41: Petroleum Products – Determination of the ignition quality of diesel fuels – Cetane Engine Method

EN ISO 5165: Petroleum Products – Determination of the ignition quality of diesel fuels – Cetane Engine Method

Features and Benefits

The F5 Cetane EFI significantly enhances fuel atomization, improves air/fuel mixing, maintains a cleaner combustion chamber, and ensures a precise start and consistent injection duration, resulting in highly consistent fuel quantities.

The F5 Cetane EFI produces an atomized spray and improves air / fuel mixing, resulting in a more reactive mixture. This leads to a faster combustion reaction using less fuel.

Constant start of injection and a constant duration are provided by the F5 Cetane EFI, ensuring a very consistent fuel quantity.

The EFI nozzle is designed to replicate the Cetane Number (CN) rating from the legacy system.
